The Aims of OISM

1. To contrast the culture of psychodrugs as an approach to curing mental problems and as a means of mass medicalization.

2. To overcome: the medical model of mental disorders, the concept of «mental illness», the diagnostic stigma and its ideological aspects.

3. To abolish involuntary medical hospitalization and all the public and private total institutions, favouring territorial intervention practices.

4. To contrast genetic projects which violate Human Rights and the main values of Society.

5. To design ethical guidelines for mental problems.

6. To promote studies and research on mental health and on its National and International laws.

7. To promote information and training through courses, seminars, conferences, editorial activities and all other suitable means, thus favouring the study and practice of psychosocial uneasiness prevention.

8. To establish contact and collaboration with similar associations and agencies, both Italian and foreign.

9. To establish a library and an archive.

10. To establish on the Italian territory a network of professionals offering support to people who have undergone harm in the mental health system.

11. To protect, by all suitable means, the general population from harmful and cruel «therapeutic» practices in the mental health system.

12. To favour association between people interested in mental health issues.
